I Want To Become Energy Independent, What Type Of Bicycle Should I Buy?

A Reader Asks…

My family is moving to a new town, we will only be taking one car with us, so this is our shot at a fresh start of energy independence. We will share the car and want purchase new bicycles to use to commute to work and for errands when one of us doesn’t have the car. The new town is a tropical environment (rain) and has lots of hills. Any suggestions on a good bike for this type of enviorment? I am not found of the hills.

I would go for a “Hybrid” style bike which is like a mix of Mountain bike and a road bike. I`ve got a raliegh Metro Pioneer, which is really good for the money (£200).
I would also rec getting a set of Panier bags to go with it.
There is a very wide range of good hybrid bikes so dont just go for the most expensive,. Happy cycling!

You should buy a bike that stops right in the middle of heavy traffic. GO BUY ANOTHER CAR. There is no such thing as energy independent unless you go live in a tent in the middle of the desert. I am tired of trying to dodge bikes with my SUV.
